Friday Five 1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year? Getting a blog started, it's not much but it is making me write for personal rather than work which was a personal goal. 2. What was your biggest disappointment? My New York Privacy event, it wasn't as big as I would have liked. 3. Will you be making any New Year's resolutions? Probably not, no one ever keeps them so why should I bother with deluding myself. I will continue to exercise and write more and maybe even move back home , but who knows. 4. Where do you wish you were celebrating? Flagstaff, AZ 5. What do you plan to do for New Year's Eve? Shoot pool with friends and watch the Giant Pincecone drop in Flagstaff, AZ doesn't that work out nicely?
Been up in Northern Arizona, running around been to some of my favorite places, with some of my favorite people, I'll be about until New Years, may post, may not...we will see, Friday Five should be posted shortly.
I cant believe I forgot Friday Five ...here goes... 1. What is the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? Gado, Gado at Cafe Asia, a rather weird salad. 2. Name one (material) thing you can't live without. Email 3. Name something you've always wanted to do but didn't have time for. Learn Piano or martial arts. 4. What outrageous thing do you wish you had the nerve to do? Conversations with more women. 5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? Well since it's over spending it with my family... 5. How do you plan to spend your weekend?
Busy weekend, since I arrived pretty much doing that family thing here for the holidays, saw an old friend tonight, but he doesn't have a webpage so no cool links ;) My father, brother and me went golfing today. I didn't do real well but it was fun regardless. Not much else to tell, no really web-browsing to point to any cool links, in fact I am not even getting my mail read. Oh well next will be better after Xmas I suspect. Happy Holidays....and as far as I know Strom is still alive.
Busy day, went shopping with my brother and my Mom (she and I spent too much money0, mostly on me ;) ) Good Mexican food for dinner and I saw LOTR, came back to my parent's house for an Anchor Special Holiday brew, gotta love the holidays :)
Safe in Phoenix, that is all.
Before I go...... Day 36 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
Poor Geraldo , even his cameraman is quoted "They don't make a helmet big enough for his head." Will he ever get any respect ? (I hope not) This can only mean one thing, INVASION ! Flying to Phoenix today, and boy will my arms get tired. *Rim Shot* So don't expect many more updates until tomorrow.
Thank God, we have him out there reporting the truth . Mostly because there aren't many Strom things to report and this is just as funny. Speaking of which Day 35 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
Remember how Larry Ellison came up with this idea ? Well you can thank the UN , it should be dead anytime now.
Have you heard about the Browns game Sunday ? I don't support what the fans did , they could have hurt someone . But if we let the Refs change plays after the next play has been started , then the terrorist have already won !
Today's history lesson is Thermopylae, as in the Battle of Thermopylae , which is from the Greek for "hot gates". It is where the Spartans fought against Persians in overwehlming odds. (Arcane History Moment)
Blantly stolen from Jenn . This is funny ... Good Luck with the Roommates, Jenn!
How not to run an IT Trade Association
Survived the M$ update. It was a good weekend for the most part, and now for your moment of Zen D'OH!
If your system admin sends you a task with the subject "please click on this link", is that alittle like an Uncle saying "come over here and pull finger"? Considering you can't uninstall this patch from M$, I certainly hope this isn't the case. Wish me luck...
I have added a handy counter (near the bottom of the page), if it's correct the couple of people who read my rants tend to be split fairly evenly between IE 5.x and 6.x, so i will try to fix the background issue. (Since I know there are some display issues on IE)
Day 31 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM) , today I found a commentary from Armstrong Williams on Strom. Enjoy!
Friday Five 1. What did you want to be when you grew up? I still don't know... Hmm honestly, I never worried about it as a kid, I just enjoyed life. 2. Do you have any nicknames? Tomas, bear, geist, George (but only by Martha), and Boris. 3. If you could change something about yourself what would it be? More clean underwear? Naw, hmmmmmmmm more hair on top (big surprise) 4. Have you ever bought anything from an infomercial? No, but my mother sent me some of that Oxy-Clean stuff and it really works, no lie. It got red wine out of a white t-shirt after it had sat soaking in the wine for a week. What more can you ask for? 5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? Weather looks good for golf tomorrow, volunteering Sunday, and at some point I need to do some Xmas shopping. Continue working on Xmas cards...
One other thing, remember my response to Jason the other day? Well, he didn't get my REMOVE message (or do anything with it) and I got another piece of spam from him today. It says about the same things as the previous email, but one interesting new hook. From Jason's email, " The event will include presentations by eight of the top providers of advertising technologies, solutions, and Internet sites, as well as two one-hour roundtable discussions that we call "pods." " So it left me wondering...if you attend one of those sessions are you a pod person ? Definition from the dictionary ... Main Entry: pod Pronunciation: 'päd Function: noun Etymology: origin unknown Date: 1573 1 : a dry dehiscent pericarp or fruit that is composed of one or more carpels; especially : LEGUME 2 a : an anatomical pouch b : a grasshopper egg case 3 : a tapered and roughly cylindrical body of ore or mineral 4 : a usually protective container or housing: as
A huge brick of chocolate just showed up in our office form the folks at Hershey . Life is good.
I have made reference to Cluetrain occasional and my interest is great enough that I even signed on to the mailing list , but there was a post this morning on the list that was basically, I think someone trying to start an urban myth, so before it goes too far, let's remember the tell-tale signs of one.... 1 - Note the use of CNN, but not specificially citing an article, nor who spoke, or when they spoke. 2 - Interestingly 90% of the spam in my mailbox these days is either from hotmail or msn. (To my friends online, please move over to someone else for your mail services. I will be banning all msn emails soon and I am considering banning at hotmail as well.) 3 - Another tell tale sign is that it went out to a list that has nothing to do with the topic. 4 - They misspelled a commonly known word. I do it all the time, but combined with other features that are suspect in the email it becomes another reason to mistrust. Besides haven't we seen Bin Laden's name en
We have to be the most un-IT IT Trade Association on the market. "I just want some sharks with freakin' lasers mounted to the heads, is that so much to ask for?"
Busy day probably won't post until late so.... Day 30 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
Hella, Hella, Hella Cool ....yup hate to admitt it but I am a fan of his site . Since I got off work I have been working on some sites at my regular work desk, since the bandwith is better than at home. (But Tom why does this page still suck?) Well, see I went to Germany last August and putting those pictures online is a higher priority, but I'll get this looking badass, soon, promise! Home, food, go now...
Day 29 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
SNOW!
Today in the news .... From his perch near Tora Bora, Afghanistan, Fox News Channel correspondent Geraldo Rivera seemed more agitated by a question about carrying a gun than by the mortar rounds that just exploded nearby. "I refuse to address that issue," said Rivera, speaking into a satellite phone. "It's been blown way out of proportion. It makes me sound like a tabloid talk show host goes to war. It's so unfair." BOO HOO BOO HOO, If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, may it perhaps be a duck?
I hate my work computer and most especially Windoze 98. (Just thought I'd share...)
Day 28 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
This was in my Inbox Friends: Never met this guy... How to monetize and protect digital content is clearly the most important question driving the media today. Hmmmmm, the horse is gone from the stable, why not find a new system that works with technology not against it... This past weekend, I was not only able to download the entire season of WB's Smallville and UPN's Enterprise over KaZaA, but I was also able to burn them all onto blank CDs (total cost for 20 episodes: around $10 in blank CDs) and play them in my DVD player with Nero video CD-burning software. These TV shows were not only available free over the Internet, but the people are putting them up on the Internet took the time to take out the commercials. You know I do believe that was illegal.... Content is being stolen and shared by tens of millions of users around the world. Yourself included evidently. Another consideration: The media industry is not just being faced with the challenge of protect
Bloggin' from an exercise bike at the gym, why??? Because i can! ain't the 'net fun ;-)
The media always makes these cost of living adjustments sound evil , but let's face facts people. When members gave up being paid for speaking engagements they allowed a COLA to keep up with inflation, nothing wrong with that. "The latest boost is for 3.4 percent and will raise members' annual salaries to $150,000." That sounds like a lot but if you have to maintain two residences and put kids through school, which many of them do, it suddenly doesn't sound like a whole lot. I am getting 4% in the private sector and we are under a budget crunch, so 3.4 doesn't sound outrageous. I wonder what the reporter who wrote it got for a COLA? Alan Fram opposed disclosure of his salary , but complains about the Congress alittle hypocritical, no? He states he's a private citizen, but I see his name alot in public , don't you ? Just so we are clear on matters of disclosure, for those of you who don't know I used to work on the Hill . (BTW Strom is mentioned in
They are talking about Blogging (Real Audio file) on Fresh Air on NPR . That's right I am linking to a story on blogging from blogsite. A little redundant huh? :-) PS- Ev caught this story too, and I think he's right .
One of other thing Day 27 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
I was offline for the weekend, mostly of my own intent...the parties and the movies kept me busy, never got around to shopping. BTW- I don't much care for Julia Roberts, I tend to think she is over rated and not really all that talented. That all being said America's Sweethearts was hilarious. Best movie to make fun of Hollywood since the Player. It also had Billy Crystal, Catherine Zeta Jones, and John Cusack. I generally like the other three and the fact that it was raining Saturday when we prefered to be out golfing, lead me to watching it. All and all a good time and alot of laughs.
Day 24 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
Friday Five 1. If you were to go to a movie this weekend, which one would you pick? Training Day or K-Pax 2. What movie would you like to rent this weekend? Enemy at the Gates perhaps, I saw it a while back and enjoyed it. 3. What one TV show do you always try to watch? Hmm one, Sports Night or Dawson's Creek . 4. If you (and your S.O.) were cool with it, what five celebrities (at the most) would it be 'ok' for you to have a fling with? No S.O. so here goes Kate Winslet , Bridget Fonda , Julie Delpy , Salma Hayek , and Jewel . 5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? Big Holiday party weekend, so I'll be going to those. If the weather holds out golfing tomorrow, and probably some Xmas shopping at some point.
Got some spare mojo send it this way , got some spare cash send it this way . My thoughts and prayers are with you man, as it says on your page "There is so much left to do."
I am listening to Elliot this morning and he has Bobby Slayton on, the guy was hilarious, in DC area no plans this weekend go see him , oh yeah and he has an equal opinion of Uncle Jack . The one thing I will give Elliot, even though he works for the devil , he's aware of it and actually complains about the life. I mean have 7 different format stations in one building, that must suck and having them all at the same Holiday party, what do you play for Music is it Holiday minimalist ?. The whole concept of growing bigger and bigger and then one must be efficient is clearly silly .
TOP TEN THINGS STROM THURMOND HAS DONE SINCE HIS RELEASE FROM HOSPITAL ON OCTOBER 3RD 10 - Woke up alive 9 - November 27th Addressed Senate about some young punk who died (The kid was 75) . 8 - Woke up alive 7 - Also on November 27th Strom volunteers for Selective Service (busy day) 6 - Woke up alive 5 - October 25th Delivered speech to Senate floor. 4 - Woke up alive 3 - Went to former baby-sitters funeral. 2 - Woke up alive 1 - Moved back into hospital!
Theoretical question, if I joined them would I have to wear a funny hat , or can I continue with my current ?
A Moment of Introspection A honest and intellectually open opinion, should make itself available to new information, thoughtful consider it and judge it against established opinions. Perhaps I have been too harsh about Strom with the DEATH WATCH and I should just move on, he has a distingushed history and due alot of respect. Then I see things like this and say Day 23 of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM)
Every once and a while the Repulsive publishes something of a value, and now for your Moment of Zen
In today's MAD FAT PROPS to CRACKGIRL's MOM, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
BTW, have you seen this ? Stupid KPMG just glad my buddy Dave still isn't working for them. You know on one level I see it as just a stupid corporate policy out of step with the web. On the other hand I can't help wonder if it isn't a clever corporate ploy to get e ve r y one under the sun to link to them. No such thing as bad advertising idea......hmmmmmm
never got around to posting the Strom list, will do it later today...
Was a very cool personality test now some crap...
STROM WATCH UPDATE! You think Strom's old, his baby sitter when he was a kid just died and she was a 109! This is hilarious, it made my day! Thanks Ryan!
Day 22 of of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM) Big Day here at Bear Droppings, Strom turns 99, later our Top 10 things Strom has done lately. But for now just a few links around the web. Also Strom shares a birthday with former President Martin Van Buren . He also shares a birthday with the German Director Fritz Lang evidently . Also in 1904 the Japanese destroy a Russian fleet at Port Arthur in Korea, Strom is 2 years old. And lest I forget the most important historical fact of the day, on this day my father was born :-) I knew my father's birthday was today and I knew Strom's was today, but I hadn't put the two together that it was the same day until just this moment. Funny how the mind works. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!
Strike the 5:59post, I got home a while ago and found a Xmas card from the person I was considering working for, so I am still considering it. It's the little appreciations in life.
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust, It's what the stars are made Even what are bodies are made Ironic it's the dust we now fear. Something so small so unknown so uncertain so much of what life is... we fear the unknown we fear ourselves we fear our mortality. A work in progress from a few weeks ago.
Have a big decision this week, folks who know me know I have been thinking about it seriously since Friday. Decision I'll stay at ITAA for now. That is all.
I just figured out the real reason for viruses, modern idiot detectors, want to find an idiot, next time a virus arrives in your office, see who opens it, there you go. We have two evidently. Just so people know here is what it looks like... Subject Line: Hi How are you ? When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you I am in a harry, I promise you will love it! Evidently it's know as the Goner virus (actually a worm) and comes with the attachment "Gone.scr" just so people know....
SNOW! I am dreaming of a white Christmas :-) Actually since I won't be there until New Years I'll be in Phoenix for Xmas, let's say White New Years.
Day 21 of of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM) I am putting off my Top 10 list until tomorrow for his 99th birthday. Still need your Strom fix for the day, read here instead. We have to celebrate some how...
Went to the Goethe Institute today...one of the staffers has gotten it into their head I would make a good addition to the Friends of Goethe Institute (FOGI) advisory board. Which would be cool, but another volunteer activity...4 in total...I must be crazy
Ya, ya so I am a post fanatic, but I have been meaning to join the Friday Five postings for a few weeks and so I am doing it a few days late... 1. What did you have for dinner last night? Angel hair pasta with garlic and Parmesian cheese... 2. Do you ever get up for a midnight snack? Rarely and if I do it's usually cold leftovers out of the frig that were really tastey. 3. What's your favorite dessert? I had an Incredible Cheesecake when I was in Texas, either that or else rich homemade ice cream. 4. Tell us something about you that would surprise us. I am tiring of the DC social scene. 5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? Well since the weekend is over. I spent a fair amount of time at the Smithsonian and I had a wonderful time at Corcoran and coffee afterwards. Otherwise I had a 100 little projects I was working on...

Okay, I was going to be good no more time suckage but I came across this and can't help but post. I am been a long time Bond fan, I tend to favor the old Ian Fleming books. Any ways, go take the James Bond Villain Personality Test ! I am Red Grant. If I was a James Bond villain, I would be Donald "Red" Grant . I enjoy red chianti, working out, and beating people to a pulp with my bare hands. I am played by Robert Shaw in From Russia With Love . Who would you be? James Bond Villain Personality Test Hmmm they got that working out thing wrong, but otherwise who knew...
been a busy bear, hard at work, but I will try to get up a real posting today honest. (I usually don't get online on the weekend much anyways...) Day 20 of of Strom Thurmond Death Watch(TM) Strom's last press release online is dated October 3rd, that's right kiddies 2 months old. " Thurmond Returns to Work " been wondering what he has been doing the last two months, me too so it inspires me...tomorrow live on Bear Droppings TOP TEN THINGS STROM HAS ACCOMPLISHED SINCE OCTOBER 3RD . (feel free to email me ideas)
