Poetry Wednesday
Yup it's back, been a dead meme of late, but all the driving I am doing will cause that and less frequent posting. Any luck and next week I'll be back to my blogging madness.
The Enkindled Spring
This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes,
Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between
Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes.
I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration,
Faces of people streaming across my gaze.
And I, what fountain of fire am I among
This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed
About like a shadow buffeted in the throng
Of flames, a shadow that’s gone astray, and is lost. - D. H. Lawrence
By the way don't let this poem fool you I still expect a major snow storm in Northern Ar...

An old roommate and I used to watch the World News hour on CNN, then one day it was gone I never understood why. Here is probably the reason such a shame I got more news out of the program than many newspapers. I suppose that is why I don't get my news from TV anymore, it's just too dumbed down a medium.

Salon has The confessions of a semi-successful author in which a midlist author discusses their woes (You can click on the one pass to read it). It's an interesting read, but contrasting it to my goals was the most useful part. Perhaps it's a difference of genre, but I don't have any immediate expectations that my writing will be my sole source of income anytime soon, maybe ever. It's part of the reason I worked to get in with a good company and steady income stream. Most science fiction writers have to have a day job I have realized it and accepted it about my intended field, sure I may write other stories but this will be my bread and butter.
In other news I am editing and reediting the selection I am submitting for the Clarion workshop. Deadline looms, I haven't a clue how I'll afford it if I get accepted, or that my current employer would be flexible to give me the time off to go, but as another Writer mentioned in or Sunday circle, "if you really ...

Traficant Watch
As regularly readers know I have long been a fan of James Traficant, but while I'd never see him I am a bit bother he has been moved to another prison further from home . I had the chance to meet his charming daughter a few months ago and I am saddened her drive will be made much further to see her father.

I don't watch many movies except for the short stack of DVDs I have and about one or two a year, most of the scripts are unimpressive and don't tell a compelling story. That all said I am rather intrigued in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow it looks like will be one of my movies for the year. I had that thought even before I read this profile of the creator at the NY Times magazine. After reading it I am all the more convinced. I went back and saw the trailer again tonight. I got that old exciting feeling of a story that takes you away to another world. I admit it, I can't wait to see it.

The Spanish had their day of democracy, but as to what the results may mean?
"I wonder if the Spanish people have thought of what message they've just sent to the Basque separatists, whom they've been fighting for many years: Wantonly kill enough of us and we'll appease you, too." - Barbara Skolaut (via Instapundit )
I disagree with alot of the Patriot Act and think alot of recent things need to be fixed, but sending the terrorists the wrong message is perhaps even worse.

I don't have the money to attend many conferences, my goal in the future is to budget enough to attend 4-6 a year. Before today SXSW was going to be on that list however after reading this post of Joi's I think I'll save my money for Etech or some place else where bloggers and computers are welcome.
Interactive ...I don't think so.
FOLLOWUP: Between Cory's battle cry and Joi's post the wave of public opinion hit the conference and they changed the rule, now people can use power outlets and pictures as long as they are for personal use only.

Been enjoying the local weather, I compared to DC not surprisingly Flagstaff will be both warmer and cooler today. But for the moment I am in lovely Sedona before the drive to work. We got talking last night at dinner about how nice the weather was lately, however there was a consensus among the people who had lived in Flagstaff for a while not to trust it that we would get hit by at least one and maybe a few of harsh Winter storms before we would get to Summer.
Cynical?
Maybe, maybe not. I have seen a foot of the white stuff in the middle of April and Flag has been known to get snow in June. It has been great weather though.
Only other news is I am moving to Flag, the commute sucks too big a chunk out of the day, not to mention money. I think the new place has been worked out, details later once everything is finalized.
